Astro’s Playroom is not only a very nice video game but, in addition, it shows all the potential of the new PlayStation 5. This fun and colorful little Astro, released exclusively on the PS5 to celebrate its launch, is a festival of joystick sensations.
Orders panic, the DualSense joysticks vibrates all the time to make you experience, almost from the inside, the events of the game developed by the Asobi team for Sony and its PS5.
Starting from 7 years old
Astro’s Playroom is a 3D platform game, in which you lead a cute, beautiful little white robot that nothing can stop, not even the craziest obstacles! The game, accessible from 7 years old, is installed for free on the PS5, so it would be a shame to do without.
It is made up of four levels, it’s not huge and we got around pretty quickly. In about five hours we can see the end, but the game is free on the PS5, let us remember, and nothing prevents us from starting again once we have reached the end.
It is also quite tempting, because we swallow all the tables quite quickly, discovering, casually, the different elements that have made up our dear PlayStation for several generations!
The game, also well paced from a sound point of view, is not particularly difficult and this is not the primary objective. It is, above all, to make discover beautiful (and new) sensations to the players.
You collect coins and different items, you jump, you fall, you leap, you hit your “nice” enemies, the controller vibrates with each turn of the world.
Experience the game from the inside through the controller
The ideal is to discover it with the family, the parents being able to help the youngest to overcome a few more perilous obstacles. But the reverse is also possible!
You are sometimes mounted on springs and it is with the adaptive triggers that you measure the strength of your jumps. The DualSense vibrates when there is wind, to make you feel the squalls.
We have the feeling of sliding on ice or sticking in the slush, depending on the environment in which our character evolves.
Great sensations also when shooting with an arch, always by adjusting the power with your fingertips … Or when, in the same way, you climb walls by activating the left and right triggers successively and by shaking the joystick to take the plunge.
Which is reminiscent of some good Wii games by the way. A real treat, for the awakening of the senses.
Sackboy, a nice platform game
The other “family” game (for over 7s) that seduced us is the very nice Sackboy : A Big Adventure. This title, released at the launch of the PS5 (it also runs on PS4), is less impressive thanAstro’s Playroom regarding interactions with the controller, but it exploits its potential well.
To put it simply, we could find a lot in common with a little Mario, between Bros and Galaxy to name a few. You must advance your little character in a universe full of obstacles, to face a nasty boss and free your trapped friends.
Sackboy is colorful, dynamic, it manages to renew itself at each level to surprise us. It sometimes requires ingenuity, often puts your agility to the test. He is rarely punitive.
Sackboy is not too difficult but, for all that, a few more difficult passages can give the youngest a hard time, and constitute a great challenge for the others.
We never get bored and we always want to come back, for a small part in this world both magical and evil.
The vile Vex kidnaps Sackboy’s friends and forces them to build his Whirlwind. Adventure through snow-capped mountains, lush jungles, ocean kingdoms, and the most spacious space colony. Confront Vex. Save the Sackripants. Save the world!
There are multiple areas to roam through each of the six worlds on offer, really plenty to occupy for a while with your well-known little woolen hero on PlayStation (the game is part of the series Little Big Planet).
The moment we loved? Le Paradis Sonner, in which you move to the rhythm of the lively music of Bruno Mars, Uptown Funk.
On the other hand, as beautiful and nice as it is, Sackboy (sold anyway between 60 and 70 euros) is far from exploiting the full potential (still hidden) of the PS5 and above all remains a very beautiful game at the PS4 level, even if the new generation console sublimates it by the way …
Let’s not forget, however, the possibility of playing with several people. And here we will make the same observation that we had made for Knack2, two is even better! Speaking of Knack, remember, the first part was part of the launch games of the PlayStation 4 in 2013…
Good family moments in front of the console
To conclude, Sackboy (PS4 and PS5) and Astro’s Playroom (PS5 only) are two very nice games for young and old. They complement each other wonderfully and allow you to enjoy good family moments in front of the console.
What to get in the mood before the arrival of another highly anticipated game on the PS5: Ratchet & Clank : Rift Apart. Again, a well-known license, but we can not wait to find on the PS5!
