"Joker" has a quiet Los Angeles Premiere of possible threats – Deadline

After the preview at the Venice Film Festival and the Toronto Festival, Joker arrived in Hollywood for his premiere in the United States. Despite having received critical acclaim, the film was put under the media microscope considering its history of division over a man who reveals himself and resorts to acts of violence because of alienation. That being said, there were fears that the projections would be susceptible to the threat of a mass shooting.

At last night's premiere at the TLC Chinese Theater in Hollywood, security was high, but the threat was pretty low. Security was widespread throughout the Hollywood and Highland complex – even every floor of the garage had official monitoring that came and went from the busy facility. Hollywood Boulevard was closed and the authorities guarded the area, closely watching all those entering and leaving the theater and restricted areas, including the afterparty. But in the end, it was your first Hollywood based … with some tweaks.

Before the premiere, Warner Bros. held back the transmission and printing of interviewers from their premiere on the "green" carpet and adjusted the print line only on photos. The news was made shortly after it was announced Joker he wouldn't be playing at the Cinemark Aurora Theater where 2012 was Dark Knight Rises mass shootings have occurred, killing 12 and wounding 70.

Despite the greater risks, the LAPD declared to be “aware of the concerns of the public and of the historical significance associated with the premiere of Joker. Although there are no credible threats in the Los Angeles area, the Department will maintain high visibility around movie theaters when it opens. We encourage everyone to go out and enjoy all the weekend recreation that this city has to offer, however, Angelenos should remain vigilant and always be aware of its surroundings. As always if you see something, say something. "Industry sources have also informed Deadline that the FBI and national security have also found no credible threats regarding the release of Joke

Before the start of the screening, director Todd Phillips came out to greet the audience, which he doesn't often do. He joked it Joker has not received any press recently and has told everyone to spread the word about the film. He then said that the film should be appreciated only for the art that it is.

Joker will open in theaters on October 4th.
